The Guys Were Better

I don’t know about you, but I’m still upset about Alaina’s untimely departure last week. It doesn’t make sense because it’s not like I know this girl. At this point in the competition, emotions have not been vested in her as a contestant. If you can explain, click the comment button below.
Enough boo-hooing though. Let’s hope the girls will make better song choices than the guys did last night in the decade in which I suffered through junior high school, had no boyfriends and barely made it through Math I and Spanish I to graduate junior college.
1. Asia’h Epperson, 19
Whitney Houston/"I Wanna Dance With Somebody"
I’m hearing something here and it’s not the sweet sound of Whitney Houston. Instead, it’s a girl whose nerves are grabbing hold of her voice because she doesn’t have the chops to pull it off. Randy and Paula heard something I did or they’re seriously doped up with the praise they’re giving her.

2. Kady Malloy, 18

Queen/"I Want to Live Forever"
I lived and breathed the 80s so how did I miss this song? I haven’t even heard it on XM 80s on 8. I guess it was okay but I wasn’t moved – except maybe to scratch my head in song choice confusion.

3. Amanda Overmyer, 23
Joan Jett & The Blackhearts/"I Hate Myself for Loving You"
As much as I love her style and the gruffy vocals, I’m afraid I could be growing tired of her singing the same type of songs the same way week after week. Some would say she found her niche whereas I would say she’s hit a rut. The husband seems to feel that she really doesn’t want to be there.

4. Carly Smithson, 24

Cyndi Lauper/"I Drove All Night"
WOW!!! Not only do Carly’s eyes look amazing but this song choice demonstrates her ability to smash the competition. A thousand votes for Carly!!!

5. Kristy Lee Cook, 24
Journey/"Faithfully"
This was a great song choice for her twangy voice. Plus, she’s absolutely lovely. Very, very good.

6. Remiele Malubay, 20
Phil Collins/"Against All Odds"
I guess it was impossible to get through the 80s week without someone thinking they could sing this song. I can’t believe it, but this might be the best attempt at Phil’s work in all of Idol history.
7. Brooke White, 24
Pat Benatar/"Love is a Battlefield"
When Ryan announced this would be Brooke’s song choice, I doubted her ability to pull it off. But with her personal approach to the song, she accomplishes it. However, I wish she would go outside her vocal comfort zone. That said, she knows who she is.
8. Syesha Mercado, 21
Whitney Houston/"Saving All My Love for You"
What would an 80s night be without multiple attempts at the incredible Whitney Houston repertoire? Syesha is much better at it though than Asia’h was. It was carbon copy but at least it was good.
This show is a great distraction from life’s daily horse manure. So, who is getting the big kiss-off tomorrow night? I don’t think any of the girls royally screwed it up but I’m going to take a chance and say it will be Kady Malloy and Asia’h Epperson … but I’ve been wrong about Kady before! Best of the night? Carly all the way!!!
