The End Is Near

The two Davids go head to head tonight in the two-night season finale of American Idol. The CORNY opening depicts a boxing match with both Davids decked out in boxing robes and sporting gloved punches in each other's direction. How lame.
There's a freakin' Coca-Cola logo littering the screen - not just in the backdrop, but in the forefront too.
I don't think I can do this whole watching, let alone blogging about it, thing. This could be the "Jump the Shark" year.
Did you happen to catch the season finale of Desperate Housewives the other night? I'm so wanting to just smack Cherry around for jumping his own creation. Stupid, stupid, stupid move in fast-forwarding the show five years next season.
But back to the other show that makes us angry.
Round 1 features songs chosen by music mogul Clive Davis.
David Cook is up first with "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For." While it's a perfect match for Cook's voice, he does nothing with it to make it his own. From that aspect, I'm disappointed. The crowd certainly isn't though, but that's probably because his vocals were on the money.
"Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me" is what Davis chooses for David Archuleta. He doesn't do much to change up this classic either. That said, this was the performance of an American Idol. Perfect.
Round 2 features songs submitted in the Idol song contest. Both contenders gets to pick from a pool of ten songs.
David Cook performs "Dream Big." The song is reminiscent of the 80s' Big Hair bands. Even so, it proves to be a good jammin' diddy for Cook. That's going to be a big hit on his debut album. Fun!
David Archeleta chooses "In This Moment." Girls are screaming so wildly I can barely here him sing this typical cheesy mush stuff. Decent vocals but the song does nothing to excite me. Yawn. Girls continue to go gooey.
Round 3 is Contestants' Choice.
David Cook picks Collective Soul's "The World I Know." Why would he choose this song? It's not a bad song but it's not a song that's going to win him the competition. Does he not want to win? Boogers! It's a good performance and the emotion of the night finally gets him in the end. The tears of joy and exhaustion could win him the competition. But Archuleta still lurks around the corner.
David Archuleta goes with "Imagine" by John Lennon. He's one smart 17-year-old for relying a song he excelled on early in the season. Go home boys and girls. Archuleta has one the competition. If I'm wrong, let's all get together for drinks and salute my insanity. He did it. He absolutely did it. A results show is totally unnecessary.
Confession: I enjoyed tonight's finale much more than I had expected.

Crappy, Sappy, Who Cares?

What's worse, the choices we have for the next American Idol or the choices we have for the next American president? Vote in the poll on the upper left hand side of your screen.
Judges, producers and the contestants themselves were responsible for choosing tonight's songs.

Judges' Choice
David Archuleta
"And So It Goes"/Billy Joel/Chosen by Paula
This is, perhaps, my favorite Billy Joel composition. Archuleta gives us a pleasant delivery but it lacks the "soul" necessary to completely pull it off.
Syesha Mercado
"If I Ain't Got You"/Alicia Keys/Chosen by Randy
I may have stated on this blog before my dislike for Alicia Keys. However, Syesha starts out strong and my hopes get high until she leads into the chorus with weaknesses not even befitting of a backup singer. But then she comes back with a vocal home run. I'm not sure how to feel about that. During the judges' feedback, Syesha starts to display annoying diva-like behavior.
David Cook/Chosen by Simon
"First Time Ever I Saw Your Face"/Roberta Flack
I don't like this song at all. Will Cook change my mind? I'm almost disturbed by the way he's caressing the mike stand. I still don't like the song but David C. definitely brings his own personality to it and demonstrates his incredibly blessed vocal talents.
Contestant Choice
David A.
"With You"/Chris Brown
First note out of the gate is flawless. Definitely pop star quality. He sounds a little winded though. Doesn't matter. Girls are swooning. Smart song choice.
Syesha
"Fever"/Peggy Lee
Another good Syesha performance completely lacking in distinction.
David C.
"Dare You to Move"/Switchfoot
This song has so much exposure right now that I'm not sure I can make a sound judgment on Cook's performance. I can't tell if he's giving it the ol' Cook "twist" or if he's struggling with it vocally. Randy called it pitchy so maybe that's what I'm reaching for.
Producers' Choice
David A.
"Longer"/Dan Fogelberg
Looks like despite the PITA Archuleta's dad has supposedly been behind the scenes, the producers are pushing for him to win with such an perfect song to voice match here. That said, the arrangement sounds a tad odd. If I hear Randy Jackson say "You can sang the phone book again, I'm going to absolutely screech.
Syesha
"Hit Me Up"/Gia Farrell ("Happy Feet" soundtrack)
The least enjoyable performance from Syesha tonight. She's going home ... I hope.
David C.
"I Don't Want to Miss a Thing"/Aerosmith
He doesn't rock it out and his voice is starting to sound weak. What's up this year? Now it sounds like he's having to force it on the chorus. There's been no COOKing in my kitchen tonight. Is it the truncation of the songs tonight to squeeze three songs for each contestant tonight?
Overall, sucky showdown leading up to next week's finals. I think we all know who is going home - but should I bother voting?

Keep Coming Back for More!

If American Idol wants me to keep watching for years to come, just put Adam Levine on stage. That was the ONLY highlight of tonight's show - Maroon 5. I'm not sure yet, but M5 could ultimately make the fourth slot on my list of all time favorites. I don't even have one in that position right now. Adam Levine definitely keeps me coming back for more. If you don't have their albums - buy them. They will make you shake your booty and bring you great happiness.
Oh yeah, the group song stunk, Bo Bice got lost in his ratty hair and expectedly, Jason Castro FINALLY gets sent home.

Hogwash

It's down to David Archuleta, Jason Castro, David Cook and Syesha Mercado.
I'm so old. David Cook is singing a song from 1982 - the year he was born. It just happens to be by one of my favorite groups of all time - Duran Duran. I've only seen the in concert six times. I need to work on that. Giving "Hungry Like the Wolf" a try - I'm just not feeling it. This is a song that only the vocals of the aging, yet hot - make that H O T - Simon LeBon.
Syesha's first song is Tina Turner's "Proud Mary" and she really has nothing to be proud about that performance because it once again demonstrates that there's nothing unique about her vocals. Yawn. The crowd loves it. Randy and Paula love it. I agree with Simon - "A bad impersonation of Tina Turner."
Jason - Why are he and Syesha still here? - sings "I Shot the Sheriff" by Bob Marley. It's not "bad" per se but I really don't care for it at all. Y A W N. Randy refers to "karaoke." Too kind, perhaps? "Utterly atrocious," laments Simon.
These are the cream of this year's crop? This Hoovers!
David "Awe Shucks" Archuleta gives "Stand By Me" a try. Thank God someone knows how to choose a song in Round 1. Not brilliant or anything like that - just significantly better than the other three.
Please - PLEASE - let's have a gooder Round 2.
David Cook tackles the Who's "Teenage Wasteland" and it's immediately evident that he's much more in his element here. Thank God!
Don't you wish we could vote people off rather than vote to keep them? That might be fun in the presidential election too!
"A Change is Gonna Come" - a song released after Sam Cooke's death - is Syesha's closing effort tonight. I like this performance infinitely better than her first - but still, no definition to her voice. She might make a good back-up singer - ya think?
Jason Castro unfortunately sticks to his classic folk rock roots with Bob Dylan's version of "Mr. Tambourine Man. Okay, I know Dylan has a tendency to slur words and grunts together in his vocal deliveries, but Jason just completely da da das his way through. At least he owns up to it. Other than the flub, his vocals were excellent. But at this stage of the game, Simon wisely advises Jason to pack his bags.
David Archuleta closes out the show with Elvis's "Love Me Tender," one of the first songs I learned to play on the clarinet. Alright Archuleta, open your eyes. This is definitely not a copycat version, in my opinion. Again, I'm not blown away, but it is delightful.
So I think David Cook wins Round 2 but overall, for the night, Archuleta is the winner.
It makes no difference if it's Jason or Syesha going home, just so long as it's one of them this week and the other one next week.
This is turning into hogwash.

Jason, Syesha and the Two Davids

I'm a little late posting tonight because the husband and I just got home from seeing Carrie Underwood in concert. Despite the over modulation of the sound system, it was a great concert and, of course, she ended with "Before He Cheats." Maybe I'll blog more on this later.

In the meantime, you've probably already heard Brooke was sent home. Her first song last night is what probably did her in. People might of got tired of her acting like she owned the stage with her endless chatter.

What I couldn't believe is that Syesha, who came in first in Dial Idol, was in the Bottom 2. What surprises me more is that Jason Castro got more votes than Syesha - especially as good as she was last night. So folks, we're down to the final four. With the exception of David Cook, this might be the most boring group of final fours ever in Idol history.

Did I mentioned that Josh Turner opened for Carrie Underwood tonight? He's H O T ! ! ! His voice is H O T ! ! ! ! More later! It's bedtime!

"They're Coming To America" - American Idol, That Is

It was my junior year at the University of Georgia and I lived on the third floor of Creswell Hall. Within the first week, I made friends with one of my dorm neighbors who was a HUGE Neil Diamond fan. I'm a fan too - just not like she was. I'm pretty sure she went to concerts and collected memorabilia and stuff like that. Me, I'm more into the Carpenters.

Tonight, our five finalists sing two songs each. To keep this post organized, we'll go in order of performer but list both songs they do with my snarky feedback. We'll forgo judges' comments because I've typed all day long and my fingers hurt.

Jason Castro
"Forever in Blue Jeans"
Not bad, but still goes to prove how one-dimensional Jason is as a performer.

"September Morn'"
This might have been Jason's best performance for me. The song totally fit his personality and voice. Nice.

David Cook
"I'm Alive"
I'm not off the couch hopping around with happiness but it's enjoyable enough. Not his best performance. His outfit and guitar are fully decorated with his ailing brother's initials, "AC."

"All I Really Need Is You"
Perfectly incredible.

Brooke White
"I'm a Believer"
This is a power voice song. Brooke doesn't really have a power voice. I preferred Eddie Murphy's donkey version on "Shrek." Not good.

"I Am I Said"
A huge improvement over her first song. A huge improvement over last week. Is it enough to save her pretty self?

David Archuleta
"Sweet Caroline"
This song is too identifiable with Neil Diamond that I just can't even imagine anyone else singing it. Not even Archuleta. For me, this has been his worst performance to date. It just doesn't fit him.

"America"
He misses a note and/or it's pitchy. I'm not feelin' the Archuleta today. Then he hits a big not beautifully. Little girls across the globe will vote.

Syesha Mercado
"Hello Again"
She totally gets this song and delivers one of her best performances. Did I just say that?

"Thank the Lord for the Night Time"
She shows a lot of personality on this performance. Despite her lack of distinctiveness, Syesha had a very good night. I'd say she's safe. Then again, I thought Carly was safe last week too.

Based on his second performance, David Cook is my favorite of the night. I still vote for Carly. Who is going home? It's between Brooke and Jason. Simon thinks it's Syesha. She's certainly been in the bottom enough to know her way out the door.

Big Giant Piles of Horse Manure

My day started out well. Then the afternoon was crappy. So I went home after a longer night at work with the intention of enjoying a glass of wine while relaxing to one of my favorite shows because surely someone who deserved to be going home tonight would be going home.

WRONG!!!!!!!!!

Carly is with us no more. I protest. Donkey Doo!!!!!!!!!!

That's all now for I must continue crying.

On Broadway

If it weren't for the weekly poll appearing on the left hand side of this screen, I'd fear no one reads my inate ramblings. So let's begin by encouraging response. Click the comment link below and share your opinions. That's what makes it really fun.

Did you read last Tuesday's blog entry? Is my husband insightful and witty? He's lucky he's cute too!

Tonight's theme (see blog poll) is the songs of Andrew Lloyd Webber. The husband claims that Syesha (geesh, she's still around?) will sing "Memory." Let's see.

Can you believe we're down to just six finalist?

Syesha Mercado is up first so does this mean she'll fall victim to the all-to-familiar go first, go home routine? Could we be that lucky? She sings "One Rock-n-Roll Too Many." She's a good performer but seriously, her voice doesn't do a thing for me. She shouldn't need the two lines afforded her fans tonight for voting. The husband calls it "not too bad." Hmm. The judges are quite flattering of her performance too. Ugh. Is it just me?

Ha Ha husband! It's Jason Castro singing "Memory" tonight. This could work. Andrew Lloyd Webber himself seems apprehensive during the coaching. There's not enough power in his vocal chords to completely pull this off in its intended form. Still, I find it rather soothing and enjoyable. The girls absolutely LOVE him.

Will Paula ever shut up?

She's so pretty. No, not Paula. I'm talking about Brooke. She sings "You Must Love Me." OH ... MY ... GOD ... one of the first things my mother taught me about performing. If you make a mistake, carry on because most people won't notice. Brooke, Brooke, Brooke. No one is going to remember how delightfully matched your vocals were to this song. We'll all remember that you started over. NO, NO, NO. That's not forgivable at this stage of the game. Randy and Simon feel she did the right thing by starting over when she forgot the lyrics one line in. Finally, Paula and I agree.

Tonight's theme of Andrew Lloyd Webber hits should be right down David Archuleta's alley. Oh my goodness. This little ball of cuteness is going to win this competition. But we can't dismiss our other David. Still, the young one pulls off yet another fabulous, touching and beautiful performance. Wow!

Carly, Carly, Carly! My girl should do well tonight too! Fingers and toes crossed with happy thoughts all the way to Hollywood. On the suggestion of the master himself, Carly chooses "Jesus Christ Superstar." WOW!!!! Power! Personality! Performance! VOTE FOR CARLY!!! After a huge compliment from Simon, she holds up a T-shirt that says "Simon Loves Me (this week)" She's one terrific chick!

This is David Cook's second time in the pimp spot. Can he pull off "Belong To Me"? This is totally different than anything else David C. has shared with us before and it absolutely works.

Here's how I'd rank tonight's performances with first to worst.

1. Carly Smithson
2. David Cook
3. David Archuleta
4. Syesha Mercado
5. Jason Castro
6. Brooke White

Regardless, I'd like to send off Syesha. But we all knew that already.

Due to work obligations, I may be a little later posting than usual but check in and check in often. Gotta go vote now!

"Bye Bye"

A HUGE Thank You to the most wonderful husband on the planet - mine! I had to work late last night so he filled in for me as the BESTEST Guestest Blogger.

Mariah Carey's latest hit is "Touch My Body." Is that the message we want to be sending out to young girls across the world?

Does Fox's logo in the bottom right hand corner of my TV screen really need to be green with the O depicting planet Earth? Do we really need to hear our Idols sing Mariah Carey's "One Sweet Day?" Do we really need to hear Mariah perform?

We're to the point in this season that Ryan is putting the remaining seven contestants in two groups of three with the seventh person deciding which group they belong in. It was mean many moons ago and it still is mean.

In no particular order of placement:

Right Group
David Cook
Kristy Lee Cook

Left Group
Jason Castro
Carly Smithson

Break time.

Elliott Yamin, whose mommy passed away within the last few weeks, returns to the Idol stage tonight to perform "The Impossible Dream" - something he is truly living. An Elliott fan, I am. He's one soulful white boy.

Let's add to our two groups.

Right Group
David Cook
Kristy Lee Cook
Brooke White

Left Group
Jason Castro
Carly Smithson
Syesha Mercado

Before we found out which group David Archuleta will join, I notice that the person I liked most last night, David Cook, is in the same group as the person I liked least, Brooke White.

After the break, we do this ridiculous Q&A with viewers. Yawn. Until a good question where judges are asked what the first albums were they bought. ... this segment is useless filler cheese.

Performing "Bye Bye" from the album E=MC2 (squared) which debuted yesterday, Miss Mariah takes the stage. Not a bad song. She'd look better with more clothes on. I don't understand people who feel a boob job is the key to self-esteem.

Should we really have her sing a song called "Bye Bye?" It could really depress the contestant we'll be saying "Bye Bye" to tonight.

Back to business. Ryan brings Archuleta on stage and tells him he is safe. Then there's something about too many cooks in the kitchen and asks David COOK to swap places with Syesha. What in the spitfire is going on here? Then we learn one group is safe and the other isn't. This gets too funny to even explain - but as it is - Brooke White, Syesha Mercado and Kristy Lee Cook are in the Bottom 3.

This is the fourth time Kristy Lee and Syesha have been in the bottom three and Brooke's second time - statistics courtesy of the almight Husband.

First person sent back to safety is Syesha. SYESHA???? Will my prediction that Brooke is going home come true or will Kristy Lee finally meet her fate. Oh, the drama! My prediction is WRONG. Kristy Lee. Oh my poor, sweet little country girl who improved every single week. NOT FAIR!!! What's amazing is that all three judges - including Simon - give her a standing ovation.

Singing her swan song, Kristy Lee starts off atop the judge's table, singing right to Simon. It's all cute, really. 'Til next week!

Mar-i-ugh

Good evening...this is The Husband guest blogging as Her Beautifulness, The BQ, is unable to watch live tonight.

By my amazing bad luck, I get to blog about Mariah Carey songs tonight. Does Mariah really jump out and say "American Idol?" Not really, but could her good friend, Randy Jackson, have anything to do with her being on this week? Her new album is out today. What an amazing coincidence! I would bet large sums of plastic surgery that she wouldn't be on for any other reason.

As we see Mariah greet the Idols, does anyone remember about 15 years ago when Mariah was actually pretty? Now she is snotty and slimy looking with artificial sag bags. Onward to the performances...

David Archuleta
"When You Believe"
oooo...the dreaded first position. Can we get a Bottom Three out of him? I really like him, but he is making the contest uninteresting. I don't mind his Michael Buble-type voice, but he is one-dimensional and all the young girls out there are going to vote until their tweeny fingers bleed. David sings it well, but I find myself bored. It seems to be the same type of song for him over-and-over. But *sigh* he'll make it through.

Carly Smithson
"Without You"
The most underappreciated contestant we've had in memory. Unfortunately, and it's going to be hard to avoid tonight, she's going to be "compared." She doesn't seem as powerful as she usually is, especially for this song. I fear that another Bottom Three could be forthcoming.

Syesha Mercado
"Vanishing"
Syesha has somehow survived this far with nothing that makes her stand out from the crowd. She has a nice voice, but is a copycat when performing others' songs. Nothing tonight made me change my mind. Give me Kimberley Locke anyday. (Watch American Idol Rewind - Season 2 - Check your local listings!)

Brooke White
"Hero"
Brooke is what American Idol is about...a totally undiscovered (beautiful) talent who hasn't signed any contracts, didn't win Star Search or had any blip of what the music business is about. I hope she lasts a few more weeks, but she has a minimal shot to win with the double-barreled "Attack of the Davids" to contend with. On the piano again, Brooke's sultry, smooth voice comes through with a few minor problems in the middle. You can always tell when a song means something to her.

***Blogging while watching is tough!!! I prefer being Remote Control Boy when I get commanded to rewind a performance or comment!!

Kristy Lee Cook
"Forever"
Speaking of beautiful, Kristy Lee gets the Most Improved Award as this season has gone on. This starts out a little slow, but with her country twang, pulls it off. Can she survive yet ANOTHER week?

David Cook
"Always Be My Baby"
Although he's had some pro experience in the past, he's my choice for who SHOULD win this thing based on all performances to date. He chose THIS song?!?!? Wow! There is no one in Idol history who knows how to pick arrangements for songs like he does. He is one amazing dude and I'm baffled that he needs this show. This one gets Randy off his seat for the first time all year and if I wasn't sitting here with a laptop, I might oblige.

Jason Castro
"I Don't Want To Cry"
No guitar tonight. Rather mellow and uninteresting for me. He's a good guy and I wish him well, but he's not going to win this competition.

I'm going to give Mariah credit as she did seem to be supportive and helpful towards the contestants. Wow, except for David Cook, I was bored tonight. My Bottom Three includes Carly, Syesha and Jason. Hopefully Syesha will finally go home. Post comments or I'll never blog again!

Now on to more important things: NHL Playoffs! GO STARS!!!

This is the SHOCKER Week

The vast majority of last night's "Idol Gives Back" extravaganza was prerecord Sunday night but the 2 1/2 hours dedicated to the Wednesday night airing was not enough. Not only did the show go over, a lot of stuff was cut out. Fortunately, most of those segments will be sprinkled throughout tonight's show, or so I hear.

Because the show went over, those who set the Tivo missed one of the better performances of the night, courtesy of our Top 8 finalists. For those who missed it though, we get a do over.

Now, let's get down to business. After 31 million votes, we will soon find out who is going home tonight.

Brooke White - safe
David Cook - safe
David Archuleta - safe

After a vignette from Forrest Whitaker in Angola, the reigning American Idol, Jordin Sparks, is joined by Chris Brown on her latest hit "No Air."

Jason Castro - safe
Kristy Lee Cook - safe

That means that Syesha Mercado, Carly Smithson and our first performer of Tuesday night, Michael Johns, are in the bottom three. This is Michael's first time in the Bottom 3, Carly's second and Syesha's third.

Speaking of three's, now we get appeals from the three presidential contendors - Hillary Clinton, John McCain and Barack Obama - not for our votes, but for our dollars. Both Clinton and Obama's segments looked like they were set up makeshift in a horrible hotel conference room somewhere. It probably would have been impossible to pull off, but it would have been cool if they could have got all three together for this.

But what we really want to know is who will be going home tonight.

CURSE WORDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

While I'm extremely happy that Carly is safe, what's up with Syesha being safe too? The bigger question is why in the FREAKIN' world is my cute-butted Michael Johns going home. The crowd, the judges and me - NOT HAPPY!!! Screw Idol!

Paula's Breasts ... Inspiring?

Because it's "Idol Gives Back" week, our contestants are singing songs with the hope of inspiring us. I'm not sure what Paula is trying to accomplish, but her breasts are about to explode out of her attire. Let's just hope there's not a wardrobe malfunction.

Michael Johns
"Dream On"/Aerosmith
The band is absolutely rockin' on this one and so is Michael. Absolutely fabulous song choice reflected in his incredible performance. Randy isn't impressed with the song choice. He's turning into a crabby Cowell.

Syesha Mercado
"I Believe"/Fantasia
Very nice. A few bad notes. Good ending. Not enough to win this competition.
Jason Castro

"Somewhere Over the Rainbow"
I love his eyes. I love his voice. I'm sick and tired of the hippie performances. Tonight, Jason dons the ukulele to bring us this classic in classic Hawaiian style. Unless someone really stinks it up tonight, Jason is definitely in the Bottom 3. The husband does contend that at least, unlike Syesha, Jason knows who he is. The judges love him. What do I know?
Kristy Lee Cook
"Anyway"/Martina McBride
She's no Martina McBride but Kristy Lee delivers this song with all the inspiration for which it was intended. She hits all the big notes - and hits 'em big. By far, the best performance tonight. I know a lot of people out there who just don't get Kristy Lee. The judges, especially Cowell, are oddly kind and generous with the compliments. Wow.
David Cook
"Innocent"/Our Lady of Peace
Very ODD song choice. Is this like Christian Rock? Whatever it is, it definitely highlights a whole other dimension of David's voice. Most people will embrace this but it just doesn't work for me. Like me, though, Randy didn't get it. Simon didn't like it much either.
Carly Smithson

"The Show Must Go On"/Queen
STRONG vocals, though a bit pitchy. Not my favorite from her but enough to still capture my many votes. Simon said she may have over sang it. I can see that.
David Archuleta

"Angels"/
He's at the piano tonight. What an impressive young man with an amazing gift. Without a doubt, Archuleta is safe this week and his has nothing to do with his adorable factor. He's swept the competition clean and we haven't even heard from Brooke yet. Incredible. INCREDIBLE!
Brooke White

"You Got a Friend"/Carol King
I'd like to see Brooke do a song that challenges her vocals more. Instead, it's more peaches 'n cream. I like peaches n' cream.
So, who is in the Bottom 3 this week on my amazing analytical prowess? I'd say Jason, Syesha and Brooke. David Cook has been so strong up to tonight's performance that I think it will keep him safe. But then, Carly hasn't "connected" with the general population. Okay, enough butt covering.
The husband says Syesha, Jason and Carly will face the chopping block. Who is correct? Me or the man?

VOTE CARLY - American Idol 2008!!! (McCain Too!)

Will all my hopes and dreams come true tonight? Will Ramiele be sent packing? Before we find out, we're treated to our remaining nine Idol hopefuls performing Dolly Parton's "9 to 5" and it's actually pretty good.

After a look at last night's highlights, here's how tonight goes down:

Michael Johns - Safe
David Archuleta - Safe
Carly Smithson - SAFE!!!

Keeping to the country theme this week, we're subjected to a performance of "This Little Light of Mine" by the Baker Brothers. Yeah, this should really help out the country music industry.

David Cook - he has high blood pressure and was checked at the hospital following his performance last night. There's no reason for it to rise tonight as he gets a safe seat on the sofa!

Ramiele Malubay - Bottom 3
Kristy Lee Cook - Bottom 3

Before we learn who is going to round out the Bottom 3, Idol catches up with some former contestants.

Syesha Mercado - Safe

That leaves Brooke White and Jason Castro. SHOCK! Brooke is in the Bottom 3. Between the two, I thought it should have been Jason Castro.

The husband has just informed me in two of the previous three finals weeks, the person who has sung first the night before has found their way to the Bottom 3. Of those, only one has gone home. Brooke makes it three of four. This is Kristy Lee's third time in the Bottom 3.

Before we find out who is going home tonight, Dolly Parton treats us to a song from her new album, "Backwoods Barbie."

So, who's out? It's not Brooke - thank goodness! It's not Kristy Lee either. While I didn't get my Bottom 3 correct, I did get Ramiele's sendoff correct.

Of the remaining eight contestants, only three have had the good fortune thus far of not falling victim to the Bottom 3.

Next week - Idol Gives Back.

Tuesday, April 1, 2008

Hello Dolly! VOTE FOR CARLY!!!

Tonight's mentor to the nine remaining contestants is none other than Dolly Parton.

Brooke White/"Jolene"
This is a bit of a different direction for Brooke and she could easily go country should she so desire. It's not my favorite performance from her but good enough to stay in the competition.

David Cook/"A Little Sparrow"
I'm really curious to see how David Cook is going to "wow" us with Dolly Parton. Like Brooke, David takes to the stage with his guitar. Not sounding a bit like Dolly Parton, David demonstrates just what a talent Ms. Parton is as a writer. I'm not blown away as in previous weeks but it is a different, yet delightful, delivery from David.

Ramiele Malubay/"Do I Ever Cross Your Mind?"
This is probably my least favorite Ramiele performance. She struggles with the song throughout and at times is overshadowed by the background singers. It was painful for me. Sadly, she COULD have done much better than that.

Jason Castro/"Travelin' Thru"
It's another consistent performance from Jason tonight. Perfect song to compliment his voice. However, the downside of that is he does nothing to demonstrate a voice with versatility. Still, I liked it.
Carly Smithson/"Here You Come Again"
I just don't understand why she doesn't get the street creds she deserves from the judges. Randy wasn't as mean tonight as last week but he wasn't as complimentary as Carly deserves. Simon snubs her too. Terds! Why are they trying to get rid of her? Screw them. And beat them with prickly sticks too. Here's the truth about Carly. Folks, this young lady has an amazing voice as proved on this Dolly Parton classic tonight. Unlike David Cook, Carly WOWED me tonight. Now, if there's time left, vote for her at 1-866-IDOLS-05.

David Archuleta/"Smoky Mountain Memories"
Yes, Archuleta's voice is a gift but the performance is a bit lackluster. I realize he is quite youthful, but it wouldn't hurt him to learn how to work the stage and audience, even on a song so downbeat. The audience doesn't seem to mind though. The girls are screeching wildly!

Kristy Lee Cook/"Coat of Many Colors"
Performing barefooted, Kristy Lee does nothing tonight to stake her claim in this competition. Even so, she delivers a good performance but as Simon said, "forgettable. But to a certain friend out there - who I talked to tonight - I still am a Kristy Lee fan!

Syesha Mercado/"I Will Always Love You"
My husband, also known as the King, predicted it earlier this evening that Syesha would take on the Whitney Houston version "I Will Always Love You." When Whitney made this song famous, reporters asked Dolly how it made her feel. She was happy of course, because it padded her pocketbook quite nicely. It was also one of my mom's favorite songs - so much so, that we had it played at her funeral. Enough mushy crap though. How did Syesha do? Surprisingly, she kept more to the country rendition. Surprisingly again, Syesha did a lovely job - best I've ever heard from any Idol contestant on a Whitney song. I'm impressed. This was her best performance so far this season.

Michael Johns/"It's All Wrong but It's All Right "
Very soulful. Very sexy. I love Aussies.

I think it's safe to say that Ramiele will be going home tomorrow night. She'll be joined in the Bottom 3 by Jason Castro and perhaps even Kristy Lee. That's how much better everyone else was tonight. The husband thinks Brooke may be at risk too. I guess we'll have to tune in tomorrow night to see who gets the axe.

Sofa or Stool

Who is going home tonight? Let's keep it quick and simple. Sofa means they're safe and Stool means they're in the Bottom 3.

Chikezie Eze - Stool
Brooke White – Sofa
Carly Smithson – through my many votes - she gets a seat on the Sofa
David Archuleta – Sofa
David Cook – Sofa
Syesha Mercado – Stool
Michael Johns – Sofa
Ramielle Malubay –Sofa
Kristy Lee Cook – Sofa
Jason Castro – Stool

This Bottom 3 does not surprise me - although I'd rather see Ramielle in the bunch. Jason is the first to learn he is safe. Syesha is safe and it's Chikezie going home.

David Cook Declared 2008 American Idol

First of all, why in the world was Carly Smithson in the Bottom 3 last week? There's no sense in that kind of bull dooky. I'll do my part to make sure that doesn't happen this week - unless she totally stinks it up. This week our Top Ten will perform a hit song from their year of birth. Yawn.

Ramiele Malubay
1987/Heart/"Alone"
You have to have Amanda Overmeyr type vocals to pull a song like this off. But, alas, Amanda is gone. Some of the notes fall flat for Ramiele but I give her credit for giving it her all. Unfortunately, that means screaming through the "Alone" part of "Alone." Will she fall victim to being the first to perform tonight or will she fall victim to poor song choice? Either way, I'm certain she'll be in the Bottom 3 tomorrow night unless the other nine screw it all up tonight.

Jason Castro
1987/Sting/"How Fragile We Are"
He's celebrating his 21st birthday today. Even though this song is from the year I graduated high school, I don't recognize it all. Still, Jason's voice is beautifully fluid and he won't be going anywhere any time soon - unless this peculiar song choice hurts him.

Syesha Mercado
1987/Stephanie Mills/"If I Were Your Woman"
I started my first job in radio in 1987 - it was an Adult/Top 40 station and I don't ever remember playing this song or that Sting diddy that Jason just performed. Okay, maybe I remember this one a little. I guess she sang it okay. It just didn't do much for me.

Chikezie Eze
1985/Luther Vandross/"If Only for One Night"
Chikezie delivers a solid performance but I'd like to see Chikezie sing like Chikezie and not necessarily like Luther. He didn't make it his own and that could hurt him. Randy seems to agree with me.

Brooke White
1983/Police/"Every Breath You Take"
Starts out rough so she starts over. I've never been able to learn all the words to this song. She's got those down pat but she seems a little flat on the chorus. It's hard to say how this will be received. Definitely not her best. Still, better than most ... and definitely prettier than most. Who else could make such a big mistake in the beginning and still be forgiven by the judges?

Michael Johns
1978/Queen/"We Are the Champions"
He does Queen very well. Not as nice as when he did "Bohemian Rhapsody," but still quite enjoyable. Finally, some good music for my ears tonight. Can I say he has a nice butt? Well, it is my blog reflecting no connection with anything but myself so ... NICE BUTT! Oh, he sang very well too!

Carly Smithson
1983/Bonnie Tyler/"Total Eclipse of the Heart"

BIG BIG SONG CHOICE ALERT! I remember the first time I ever heard this song and I proclaimed it would go to Number 1 in a big hurry. One of my many song predictions to come true. For Carly - EXCELLENT song choice. Randy didn't like it and therefore should be tested for drug use. I must agree with Paula that Carly could do no wrong. Why are they trying to push her out of the competition? I'm so giving all my votes to her and Michael Johns so far!

David Archuleta
1990/David Foster/"You're the Voice"
While it's not his best performance, David is totally feeling this song and looks like he's having a blast performing it. Not my kind of song, whatever song it is, but how can you not love Archuleta?

Kristy Lee Cook
1984/Lee Greenwood/"God Bless the USA
"
Smart move going with a country song. But will she properly emote it? If it were the 4th of July, I'd be waving the flag. As it is, she misses a few notes and pitchiness. I have no idea how she will fare this week. Simon loves it and even comments on the smartness of the song choice - seeing as it this is "AMERICAN" Idol!

David Cook
1982/Michael Jackson/"Billie Jean"
He's singing some other's rendition of Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean." I'm not crazy about the version but I'm definitely crazy about David Cook. This dude has the vocals, dude, and like, dude, he stands a great chance of being in the Top 3 and potentially our next American Idol. Randy has proclaimed him the winner. Paula is so damned impressed that she stands to deliver her words of actual wisdom. Simon called it brave and amazing. Now we know why he got the "pimp" spot. Crap - now I have to vote for three people. I better get busy!

My picks for Bottom 3 tonight are: Ramiele, Syesha and Chikezie. Who is going home? Probably Kristy Lee - but she doesn't deserve it.

Kimberley Locke performs tomorrow night! Hooray!

Who Comprises the Touring Top Ten?

So, did you get online last Saturday morning for your tickets to the Carrie Underwood and Josh Turner concert April 30 at the Amarillo Civic Center? I did and I can’t wait! Hooray!
I have a speech to finish writing for tomorrow so I’ll spare you the useless details.
Who could we see on tour somewhere down the road? Let’s find out. There’s a comfy couch and three cold, metal stools. Those who make it get the couch and as you probably figured, the bottom three get the stools.
Brooke White – couch
Carly Smithson – stool – WTF???????????????
David Archuleta – couch
Michael Johns – couch
David Cook – couch
Kristy Lee Cook – stool – no surprise there
Jason Castro – couch
Ramielle Malubay – couch – how is she in the Top Ten and Carly is sitting in the Bottom Three? How am I supposed to write and memorize a speech under these conditions. People!!!???!!!
Syesha Mercado – couch
Amanda Overmyer and Chickezie Eze are now center stage – Chickezie is safe and Amanda is in the Bottom Three.
Between Kristy Lee, Carly and Amanda, one would imagine it’s Kristy Lee going home but then again, who would’ve thunk Carly – the best singer in this competition – would be in the Bottom Three – ever??? Okay, enough drama. Who is it???
Tonight, we say goodbye to … shit … Amanda. Forgive the language but tonight’s Bottom Three followed by the elimination is unfathomable. Too bad for Idol because while Amanda wasn’t one of my favorites, I thought she was good for the competition and would have been a great asset to the Idol tour. What a pity.
Well, I guess we’ll see you back here next week.

Musical Wallpaper

Ryan needs a new hairdo. Maybe some highlights again. Come to think of it, me too.
In its 7-year run, this is the first time American Idol has carried a theme over an extra week but I think most of us would agree the Beatles merit more time. Besides, Paul McCartney could use the extra royalty money to help recover (yeah, right) from this week's divorce settlement with a money hungry, attention mongering, lovely young woman who I'm sure entered into the marriage with nothing but love and good intentions. Oh wait, this is about American Idol ...
Amanda Overmyer
"Back in the USSR"
This song isn't even on my list of Beatles favorites so it's a little difficult to judge considering the fact that I don't like the song to begin with. I'm not feeling it. If I'm judging over the course of a two-week period, Amanda is losing my attention fast. Still, ya gotta love her spirit.
Kristy Lee Cook
"You Got to Hide Your Love Away"
This song does a much better job of showcasing Kristy Lee's voice in the opening lines. Unfortunately, she falls flat come time for the chorus. Sometimes, you forget how brilliantly written and sung these songs are until someone else gets their vocals on 'em. That said, Kristy, finishes strong but it won't be enough to save her this week. It doesn't help that Simon refers to her lack of performing talent as "musical wallpaper."
David Archuleta
"The Long and Winding Road"
It's not my favorite from Archuleta but still proves why so many girls - young and well-aged - love him so. Even Simon calls him "amazing."
Michael Johns
"A Day in the Life"
Excellent song choice for his voice. Randy disagrees. After hearing the judges' remarks, I think the mistake Michael made was in choosing a song that was impossible to communicate in 90 seconds.
Brooke White
"Here Comes the Sun"
It's not my favorite from Brooke as she tries to break out of her shell and work the stage a tad bit. Still, decent vocals. Pales in comparison to last week for me.
David Cook
"Day Tripper"
Staying true to his rock roots, David C. delivers a solid performance - but not his best. Despite that, probably the best of tonight so far.
Carly Smithson
"Blackbird"
I can't say I'm familiar with this song but one thing I can say is that Carly is flawless. Vocal perfection.
Jason Castro
"Michelle"
Hmm. Interesting song choice. It could even be considered safe - except for those tricky parts in French. This is the first time in a few weeks where I've caught a little nervousness is Jason's performance. Not bad - but no "wow" here either. Crowd loves it though.
Syesha Mercado
"Yesterday"
I didn't like the arrangement. I didn't like the delivery. I really didn't like that really, really, really bad, bad, bad note. She's at risk after that. Randy liked it. Paula liked it. Simon ... called it her best performance so far and thinks it will keep her in the competition. Well, what do I know. I guess we'll find out tomorrow night.
Chikezie Eze
"I've Just Seen a Face"
I've been pleasantly surprised by Chikezie's ability to interpret Beatles' music into his own vibe. I liked it.
Ramiele Malubay
"I Should Have Known Better"
Ramiele has a good voice but not for this. Very karaoke.
Who are you voting for? Who is going home? I'm voting for Carly definitely. My second favorite was David C. followed by Archuleta. Here's who I'm putting in the bottom 3: Amanda, Syesha and Ramiele ... oops, I forgot about Kristy. Either way, a girl will be going home tomorrow night. Of course, it was a bit bland from Jason tonight. Who knows what's going to happen?

29 Million Votes Later and ...

More than 29 million votes were cast after last night's two hours showcasing Season 7's Top 12 contenders. Tonight, one of them will be sent home. My prediction is for Ramiele.

Mr. Jim Carrey is a special guest tonight promoting some animated movie in which he apparently voices an elephant. Appropriately, he is dressed as such.

Right before introducing the Top 12's s Beatle medley, Ryan reveals that after all of the positive feedback from last night's Beatles' tribute, they are carrying the theme over to next week.

Crap ... there's a shot of Sanjaya and his hair. Will it ever go away?

After a recap, Ryan asks four of the 12 contestants to stand as he reveals their fates.

Carly is safe. Michael is safe. Jason is safe. Syesha is in the bottom three and is asked to perform her song - knowing full well she could be the one going home tonight.

Great Idol-casted Ford commercial.

Another four are asked to stand and ... Chickezie is safe. Amanda is safe. David Cook is safe. Kristy Lee Cook asks for her microphone so she can go ahead and get her song over with. Ryan still makes her go through the torture and then let's her sing. Crap, another shot of Sanjaya. Take me to The Pavillion now! I'm not surprised she's in the bottom three but she shouldn't be going home tonight. Who will join Kristy Lee and Syesha?

In a lame attempt to milk an hour's worth of segments between commercials, Ryan takes viewers' calls.
Now, David Foster and Katharine McPhee perform ... this is stupid and a waste of my time when I could be writing my Toastmasters' speech for tomorrow. Upon reading the last sentence, the much-neglected husband says I could be paying more attention to him. Time for a disgusting kissy break ...

Kissy
Kissy
Kissy

Well, that was as satisfying as a Snickers!

Back to the show. Ugh, McPhee is still singing a snorefest.

NEWS ALERT!!! I'm not going to tell you the commercial I just saw because I don't want anyone snatching up my seats!!!! BUT OH MY GOD!!!! IN AMARILLO!!! HOORAY!!! I ain't telling! But both men and women will be happy!!! Happy, happy happy!!! I'll break into my savings to go see this!!!

Okay ... I think I've got that out of my system.

CAN YOU BELIEVE IT! AN IDOL IN AMARILLO??? OH MY GOD!!!

More attention on Carrey and the movie plug. Isn't this supposed to be about the contestants???? Ugh!

Of the remaining four, it should be Ramiele.

Archuletta gets a chance to redeem himself next week because he is safe. Hopefully he won't forget his words ever again. Brooke the Beautiful is safe and I'd like to think the husband and I had something to do with that.
So, is it Ramiele or David Hernandez going home? YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING ME!!! RAMIELE IS SAFE????? What the felines??? (Yes, I censure myself!) So it's down to David H., Kristy Lee and Syesha.

The first one sent to safety (after the break) is ... Syesha. She's quickly followed by Kristy Lee and it's David Hernandez who is going home.

Next week, more Beatles ... and hopefully I can improve on my 0-1 record. Is Darci Rae out there? Please girl - ya gotta share your predictions - you're much better at that than me! It's time to go to bed folks!

Beatlemania – Idol Style

Tonight’s show kicks off with a lot of hoopla that has nothing to do with why I watch. Hooray for the new set, the blinding lights, the band’s new penthouse and the goofy "mosh pit" full of fans next to the judges. What I’m more excited to see is how our Top 12 fare on some of the best songs ever written, courtesy of the legendary Lennon-McCartney Songbook.

Syesha Mercado
"Got To Get You Into My Life"

Syesha shows off her lower register but it takes her off-pitch at first. Thankfully, she breathes a little soul into this typically pop song. She was pretty good for being the first fish in the sea, but as the husband notes, there is no "wow" factor in the whole package.

Chikezie Eze
"She’s a Woman"

Excellent song choice for Chikezie. It really shows a side of him we’ve never been treated to before. Yeah, he’s nervous, but he’s having a blast – as it should be! He’s proving that he deserves to be in the Top 12. I thoroughly enjoyed this performance! God, this is why I watch! Even Simon is smiling! Where’s Chikezie been hiding?

Ramiele Malubay
"In My Life"
She’s seems breathier than usual tonight but she’s does have a lovely and pleasant voice. Her interpretation of the song though does nothing to demonstrate what a beautiful and moving song it is. It also does nothing to showcase her vocal strength. She even ends on a sour note, to me. Randy seems to agree with me. As Simon sums it up, Ramiele is "better than that."

Jason Castro
"If I Fell"

Jason’s comfortably tucked behind his guitar as he strums along to the sweet lyrics of "If I Fell." He had a couple of bad notes, but it was so soothing that I don’t think I care. He’s precious.

Carly Smithson
"Come Together"

I’m 100 percent a Carly fan so she better not disappoint tonight! She looks totally comfortable on this beast of a stage. Her voice is great but she can do better than this – which is hard to believe – and that’s what I love about Carly. You never know what she’s going to bring to the table but you know you’ll leave satisfied.

David Cook
"Eleanor Rigby"
David C.’s voice is so incredibly different from anything else out there that I’m compelled to love it. He begins a little rough and has some pitch problems but once he gets into it, David C. delivers. I’m a fan. Simon calls it "brilliant."

Brooke White
"Let It Be"

Brooke takes on a big one – the Beatles last single. The only thing I don’t like is she didn’t take the high not on the "Be." That aside, she is the most loveliest young woman I’ve ever seen and I don’t mean the flawless skin, the wavy hair or her captivating smile. You can truly see Brooke’s soul shine and it shines through in every performance she delivers. The judges are happy, the audience has embraced her and it’s not 9 o’clock yet so I can’t start voting. Darn, darn, darn!!!

David Hernandez
"I Saw Her Standing There"
The band is fabulous. It’s a fun performance for David H. but it does nothing to say he’s the next "American Idol." We’ll see him singing show tunes on a cheap cruise in the near future … or I will be like so totally proven wrong. Based on the judges’ feedback, I’m not off base.

Amanda Overmyer
"You Can’t Do That"
Although it’s classic Amanda form, it almost sounds like Elvis doing the Beatles. Still, pretty amazing chops. That said, it really doesn’t do much for me but the crowd is lovin’ it. She’s like a female Gene Simmons.

Michael Johns
"Across the Universe"
This is the best and truest Michael’s voice has sounded in the last few weeks. It really puts his vocals in the spotlight ad I’m liking it. He definitely connects with the song, and with the audience. Randy and Simon rip him apart though and I’m left, oddly, agreeing with Paula’s critique that it was "brilliant."

Kristy Lee Cook
"Eight Days a Week"
In her vignette, Kristy Lee reveals she’ll be putting a country spin on a Beatles’ tune.
It’s a big risk but I think she pulls it off but will the voters buy her twangy rendition? It was different. Very different. I think people who live and breathe country will love it.

David Archuleta
"We Can Work It Out"
Have we saved the best for last? SHOCKER!!! Our sweet little cutie pie keeps forgetting his lyrics. Are viewers going to remember his genius performances from weeks passed or will they be unforgiving? Let’s see what the judges lay down. It didn’t work for Randy. Paula is forgiving. Simon says it like it is, telling David A. that it was his worst performance to date.

I have way too many favorites way too soon in the competition and tonight, I’m sad to say that Archuleta isn’t one of them. I still don’t pick him for going home. Tomorrow night I fear Ramiele will be sent packing. It’s hard to say who’s performance I loved the most though. I’m a huge Carly fan. David Cook is amazing. Michael Johns was flawless. But let’s face it. Brooke pulled off the vocals beautifully and didn’t miss a note on the keyboard. I better get busy and dial!

Top 12 Decided

What kind of stupid 80s montage will our group of 16 youngsters subject us to tonight? Good news! It doesn’t look like there will be one. Thank goodness! Instead, we’re treated to a performance from last year’s American Idol Runner-Up Blake Lewis. Last year’s batch, with the exception of Melinda Doolittle and to a degree Blake, was a dismal bunch of losers. I’m liking this Blake ditty but the song would be more enjoyable without his trademark beat boxing.
To recap, I predicted Danny Noriega and Luke Menard would be going home tonight for the guys. For the girls, Kady Malloy and Asia’h Epperson. So, here’s how it’s going down …

Safe
David Cook
David Archuleta
Jason Castro
Brooke White
Syesha Mercado

Gone
Kady Malloy – So far, I’m one for one on my predictions.

Safe
David Hernandez
Michael Johns

Gone
Luke Menard – Two for two.

Safe
Remiele Malubay
Carly Smithson
Amanda Overmyer
Kristy Lee Cook

Gone
Asia’h Epperson – Three for three. This has to be very emotional considering her dad passed away two days before she even began on her AI journey. If she would have sang last night the way she is right now, she may have still been in the competition.

So, it’s down to Danny Noriega and Chikezie Eze. Chikezie is ready to accept the worst news ever only to be told to take a seat. He’s safe and obviously flabbergasted. I’m not. He deserves to stick around and not so sadly, we say adios to my fourth correct prediction – BYE BYE GIRLY MAN!

Next week we should be treated to the vast repertoire of Beatles tunes for the first time in American Idol history. Hooray!!! Anything from that Sgt. Pepper’s album works for me!

The Guys Were Better

I don’t know about you, but I’m still upset about Alaina’s untimely departure last week. It doesn’t make sense because it’s not like I know this girl. At this point in the competition, emotions have not been vested in her as a contestant. If you can explain, click the comment button below.
Enough boo-hooing though. Let’s hope the girls will make better song choices than the guys did last night in the decade in which I suffered through junior high school, had no boyfriends and barely made it through Math I and Spanish I to graduate junior college.
1. Asia’h Epperson, 19
Whitney Houston/"I Wanna Dance With Somebody"
I’m hearing something here and it’s not the sweet sound of Whitney Houston. Instead, it’s a girl whose nerves are grabbing hold of her voice because she doesn’t have the chops to pull it off. Randy and Paula heard something I did or they’re seriously doped up with the praise they’re giving her.

2. Kady Malloy, 18

Queen/"I Want to Live Forever"
I lived and breathed the 80s so how did I miss this song? I haven’t even heard it on XM 80s on 8. I guess it was okay but I wasn’t moved – except maybe to scratch my head in song choice confusion.

3. Amanda Overmyer, 23
Joan Jett & The Blackhearts/"I Hate Myself for Loving You"
As much as I love her style and the gruffy vocals, I’m afraid I could be growing tired of her singing the same type of songs the same way week after week. Some would say she found her niche whereas I would say she’s hit a rut. The husband seems to feel that she really doesn’t want to be there.

4. Carly Smithson, 24

Cyndi Lauper/"I Drove All Night"
WOW!!! Not only do Carly’s eyes look amazing but this song choice demonstrates her ability to smash the competition. A thousand votes for Carly!!!

5. Kristy Lee Cook, 24
Journey/"Faithfully"
This was a great song choice for her twangy voice. Plus, she’s absolutely lovely. Very, very good.

6. Remiele Malubay, 20
Phil Collins/"Against All Odds"
I guess it was impossible to get through the 80s week without someone thinking they could sing this song. I can’t believe it, but this might be the best attempt at Phil’s work in all of Idol history.
7. Brooke White, 24
Pat Benatar/"Love is a Battlefield"
When Ryan announced this would be Brooke’s song choice, I doubted her ability to pull it off. But with her personal approach to the song, she accomplishes it. However, I wish she would go outside her vocal comfort zone. That said, she knows who she is.
8. Syesha Mercado, 21
Whitney Houston/"Saving All My Love for You"
What would an 80s night be without multiple attempts at the incredible Whitney Houston repertoire? Syesha is much better at it though than Asia’h was. It was carbon copy but at least it was good.
This show is a great distraction from life’s daily horse manure. So, who is getting the big kiss-off tomorrow night? I don’t think any of the girls royally screwed it up but I’m going to take a chance and say it will be Kady Malloy and Asia’h Epperson … but I’ve been wrong about Kady before! Best of the night? Carly all the way!!!

David C. is Cooking it Up on the Idol Stage Tonight

If the pattern holds, we’ll revisit my favorite decade this week on American Idol. But first, can we get past all the controversy? I knew from the very beginning that David Hernandez wasn’t being all that truthful when he said he sang in dinner theater or something like that. I remember telling my husband there was something "different" about this guy. Sure 'nuff … his work has been in nude stripping for a mostly male clientele. We’ll find out this week if that revelation will have any effect on David H.’s American Idol future.
Then there’s that other Fruit Loop – Danny Noriega. Google him if you don’t already know. It’s just too creepy to repeat.
Now that we’ve gotten past the drama, let’s get to the music.
Luke Menard, 29
Wham!/"Wake Me Up Before You Go Go"
When I started my car this morning, the first song I heard on my God-given XM satellite radio was Wham!’s "Wake Me Up Before You Go Go." I didn’t realize how good George Michael was until Luke Menard made it feel so … so … yucky. Simon called it "girlie." Oh, and it was bad too.
David Archuleta, 17
Phil Collins/"Another Day in Paradise"
It wasn’t David’s best performance but I was impressed that he picked a Phil Collins tune that wasn’t "Against All Odds." He started out at the piano, which amazed me, and with perfect timing he took the mike and came out in front of the audience. But what’s really important to note here is that I love him. I love him. I love him. I love him. I want to gobble him up.
Danny Noriega, 18
Soft Cell/"Tainted Love"
Yuck. Yuck. Yuck. He thinks he’s something and he is, I just don’t know what. And the judges are about to make me puke out of my eyeballs until Simon speaks reason and says it best: "Absolutely useless."
David Hernandez, 24
Celine Dion/"It’s All Coming Back to Me Now."
Surprisingly much better than I expected. He didn’t hold the notes as long as Celine does but, still, despite a few pitch problems, it was enjoyable.
Michael Johns, 29
Simple Minds/"Don’t You Forget About Me"
I’m not sure this was a good song choice for his voice. It’s not bad … but it doesn’t make me want to undress him either. My God, will someone stuff a sock in Paula’s mouth? Now???!!!
David Cook, 25
Lionel Richie/"Hello"
One thing I’ve loved about David Cook is his amazing ability to take old songs and make them new again. It took me a minute to realize I was listening to a Lionel Richie tune. I remember the first time I heard this song I told my parents it was going to Number 1 on Billboard and, of course, it did. I have no doubt that if David Cook released his rendition today, it would go straight to Number 1 too. It’s the best performance of the night so far, to me – even better than Archuleta – because he really makes this song his own. Nice. Very, very nice. I would even say "amazing." Let’s make that AMAZING!!!
Jason Castro, 20
Leonard Cohen/"Hallelujah"
Another amazing voice. I could like so totally see Jason producing a modern-day folk album.
Chikezie Eze, 22
Luther Vandross/"All the Woman I Need"
It was a good performance for him. I think it was enough to keep him in the competition one more week.
Here’s who I predict should go home Thursday night: PAULA ABDUL. Seriously, though, I’d like to see Danny Noriega and Luke Menard to be shown the exit. But for safety’s sake, perhaps they also should make sure Michael Johns is aware of the way out too. Not his best. But … he’s still hot. The husband seems to think Chikezie may not have it so "easy" this week.
What say you? Click on the comment button below!

Poor, Poor Alaina

After Ryan’s announcement that 31 million votes came in last night, we’re left wondering why he didn’t include the number of votes cast Tuesday night considering that two girls from last night and two guys from the night before are going home. But before they do, a montage flashing back to the 70s proves slightly more digestible than last week’s 60’s offering except for the annoying and distracting audio issues.
Ryan asks the back row to stand up and here’s how it goes down for the following guys:
Michael Johns is safe. So is Chikezie Eze. Ryan tells Jason Castro that it’s bad news for him because he’ll have to prep for more interviews next week as he’s sticking around. Now it’s down to Jason Yeagar and Danny Noriega. Ryan says one is safe and one is going home. Too bad. After Tuesday night they both should be going home but it’s Jason who gets the boot.
Now it’s the girls’ turn and Kristy Lee Cook, Asia’h Epperson and Brooke White are all safe. That leaves us with Amanda Overmyer and Alexandrea Lushington – both of who are at big risk but only one gets the swan song. It is … Alexandrea.
Back from the break and we’re gonna knock off the second girl. Carly Smithson is thankfully safe. Remiele Malubay is relieved to learn she too is safe as is Syesha Mercado. Will it be Alaina Whitaker or Kady Malloy? Shock! Kady is safe and she’s just as surprised as the rest of us. Based on Kady’s reaction, I’d say she fully expected to be going home tonight. One thing is for certain, Alaina sure didn’t see a departure in her future. She’s undoubtedly shaken by the news and is so upset she isn’t sure she can sing one last time – but she pulls through and we’re all saddened.
It’s down to our final cast-off as Luke Menard and Robbie Carrico are invited to center stage while Jason Castro and all three Davids learn they are safe. So, who will it be? We say bye-bye to the wig-wearing Robbie.
Did I mention that there are multiple plugs for upcoming American Idol Events including the return of "Idol Gives Back"? Put it in your Outlook folks because on Wednesday, April 9, this event which sadly makes the finale look dull, will feature such guests as Brad Pitt, Snoop Dogg, Daughtry, Miley Cyrus and Reese Witherspoon.
It’s been a long day so if time permits, I’ll post again tomorrow to analyze tonight’s show and compare my picks with the actual results. ‘Til then, ta-ta.

Brooke White Shines Bright Tonight!

Last week's blog closed shop earlier today and a whopping three people voted that they believe this year's American Idol will be a girl. With that in mind, we settle in for the evening as we continue to celebrate the 70s with the girls taking center stage.

Carly Smithson, 24, San Diego, CA
Heart’s "Crazy on You"
Very polished vocals. Excellent way to kick off the evening for the girls. Much better than anything most of the guys did last night.

Syesha Mercado, 21, Miami, FL
The Dramatics’ "Me and Mr. Jones"
In the interview before the performance, Syesha reveals her commercial acting experience. Perhaps she should stick to acting. Her song choice is boring and the performance is lackluster. I’m not at all impressed.

Brooke White, 24, Van Nuys, CA
Carly Simon’s "Your So Vain"
With guitar in hand, Brooke, no doubt, chose the perfect song for her voice. Bravo! Crap. Is she stealing the vote I planned to cast for Carly? Best of the night plus the husband loves her.
Remiele Malubay, 20, Miramar, FL
Thelma Houston’s "Don’t Leave Me This Way"
I realize it’s early in the evening but based on three of the four performances so far tonight, girls are kicking some serious butt. Remiele’s voice is strong and enticing despite the poor song choice.

Kristy Lee Cook, 24, Selma, OR
Linda Rondstadt’s "You’re No Good"
I’m having hair envy. She looks great and she sounds pretty good. Not the best of the night though. Still, she should be safe come tomorrow night. As the husband says, it was much better than last week.

Amanda Overmyer, 23, Mulberry, IN
Kansas’ "Carry On My Wayward Son"
Started out strong with the chorus but when she got into the meat of the song – the slower part – the vocals go astray and at one point, she looks as if she’s almost forgotten the words and her voice completely unravels into a pile of messiness. That’s too bad because I’m an Overmyer fan.

Alaina Whitaker, 16, Tulsa, OK
Olivia Newton-John’s "Hopelessly Devoted to You"
She delivers the same flavor of softness that Olivia Newton-John brought to it back in the 70s. I love singing this song but I don’t sing it well. Alaina, however, did a pretty good job despite a few pitch problems.

Alexandrea Lushington, 17, Douglasville, GA
Chicago’s "If You Leave Me Now"
Seems like an odd song choice, particularly for a 17-year-old. This is a far cry from what she gave us last week on "Spinning Wheel." I applaud her bravery but it just didn’t work for me. Based on her body language, I’ve got a feeling Alexandrea knows she made a wrong turn.
Kady Malloy, 18, Houston, TX
Heart’s "Magic Man"
Great outfit but the vocals lack the power a song like this deserves. As the man says, it was flat.

Asia’h Epperson, 19, Joplin, MO
Eric Carmen’s "All By Myself"
Asia’h looks absolutely beautifully but something is terribly flawed in her voice all the way through. Some people will remember the ending but I wouldn’t bother. As Simon comments, "Know your limitations."

I've put in red text the ladies' names I think are at risk. Now argue with me by commenting below or I'm not going to play along any more! BTW, I think Asia'h and Alexandrea stand the greatest chance of going home.

The Last Guy Standing Will Be ... DAVID ARCHULETA!!!

Perhaps a trend is afoot. Last week our American Idol 2008 contenders belted out hits of the 60s. This week … hold your breath … we’re jumping forward a decade to the 70s. These kids weren’t born then either.

Michael Johns, 29
Fleetwood Mac’s "Go Your Own Way"
My hot Aussie is not as polished as he was last week on "Light My Fire." In fact, I'd say it was very rough. Rickey Minor and the band sounded HOT!

Jason Castro, 20, Rockwall, TX
Andy Gibbs’ "I Just Want to Be Your Everything"
Jason was sounding pretty impressive and looking comfortable with guitar in tote but towards the end, he loses control of his voice. He may be at risk for going home this week.

Luke Menard, 29, Crawfordsville, IN
Queen's "Killer Queen"
I don’t remember his hair being so curly in previous weeks but it seems to suite him better. I’m surprised by his song choice, but I’m pleased to hear his vocals are much improved. I think it was an excellent song choice, after all.

Robbie Carrico, 26, Melbourne, FL
Foreigner’s "Hot Blooded"
The second the band fires up, I know Robbie has made an excellent choice in "Hot Blooded." While it’s a good performance, there’s nothing unique about his voice.

Danny Noriega, 18, Azusa, CA
Carpenters’ "Superstar"
This is absolutely awful from the first note and all the way throughout. For those of you who know my infatuation with all things Carpenters, yes – I will judge with more scrutiny on this one but I can definitely sing this song with more distinction and style than this punk did. Of course, my wonderful brother-in-law once said I sounded just like Karen Carpenter. Not so, but I’ll take the compliment. Enough about me. Any Carpenters'-respecting human walking the face of this earth should NOT vote in favor of Danny boy.

David Hernandez, 24, Glendale, AZ
The Temptations’ "Papa Was a Rolling Stone"
Best vocals so far tonight, but I’m not buying David H.’s "soulful" antics. Great finish. No, let’s make that – fantastic finish. While he sang it excellently, the song didn’t seem to "fit" him.

Jason Yeager, 28, Grand Prairie, TX
Doobie Brothers’ "Long Train Runnin’"
He’s smiling way too much and the performance is frighteningly cheesy. Vocals, however, are quite respectable. His looks kinda remind me of Donny Osmond – but he’s not as cute.

Chikezie Eze, 22, Inglewood, CA
Donny Hathaway’s "I Believe to My Soul"
Chikezie let’s his soul shine on this one. However, I’m not a Donny Hathaway fan. But since Chikezie is much improved tonight over last Tuesday, I’ll let that slide. Sneaking his name into the song was pretty clever too.

David Cook, 25, Blue Springs, MO
Free’s "All Right Now"
He’s great on the electric guitar which, unfortunately, took away from what we’re focusing on – and that should be the singing. Keeping that in mind, David C.’s voice ain’t half bad but he waits until the middle of the song to bring the attitude necessary to pull the song off. Regardless, it was an overall enjoyable performance.

David Archuleta, 17, Murray, UT
John Lennon’s "Imagine"
All right peeps – this is the dude we’ve been waiting to hear all night long. Will we be charmed and impressed yet again this week? The girls in the audience are cheering like mad at the mere mention of his name. This kid’s going places. What a tender delivery in which he makes this legendary song his own. His voice is controlled and flawless. There is no doubt that David A. is the only one getting my vote tonight. Held on to every note. I want to adopt him. But, I’ve said that before, haven’t I?

Danny and Jason Castro should go home. The husband says Jason Yeager and Luke Menard. He could be right. I hope I am.

What Do You Do With This Heap of Crap?

Who did we NOT vote for last night? The two guys and two girls who garnered the least amount of the 28 million votes sent in over the last two nights are going home tonight. Of course, we have to sit through some crap before we find out. By crap, I mean all 24 of these kids are dressed in 60s’ garb as they perform perhaps the worst group medley in American Idol history. This is worse than cheesy.

Back from the break and we get a review of the guys' performances from Tuesday night. Then, with very little chatter, Ryan abrupty tells 17-year-old Garrett Haley goodbye. Garrett doesn’t seem shocked, but I am – and disappointed too.

Now Ryan announces that the next AI Top 24 victim is Amy Davis. We all saw this departure coming. Perhaps she doesn’t. The most unfortunate part of her demise is that we have to suffer through her crackling rendition of "Where the Boys Are." I can’t believe they sent the Air Force Chick (from the auditions) away and kept this hideousness.

Judge Randy Jackson, who toured with Journey back in the 80s, has a new album out and none other than our own Paula Abdul has a cut on it. The video is enjoyable and demonstrates the fact that Paula is more famous for her signature dance moves than she is as a singer. Plus, she looks great!

Instead of switching back to the guys, Ryan asks Joanne Borgella and Amanda Overmyer to take center stage. He then announces everyone sitting on the sofa is safe and will be back again next week. After the break, we find out which one has to pack their bags.

It’s the moment of truth and we learn that Joanne gets the disappointing news that she gets to sing her swan song, "I Say a Little Prayer for You." Well, I reluctantly admit that my husband correctly guessed tonight’s bottom two girls.
So, who will be joining Garrett, Amy and Joanne out the door? It’s either going to be Chikezie Eze or Colton Berry. Will I get at least one guy’s departure correct? Unfortunately, no, as I get to hear Colton perform "Suspicious Minds" one last time. You have to be freakin’ kiddin’ me. I can’t believe Chikezie got more votes than Garrett and Colton!

I am quite saddened – depressed even – for the two young men going home tonight. Where is the justice? Oh yeah, America did, at least, get it right with the girls. Well, we’re down to the Top 20 so brace for a brand new week which kicks off with another hour and a half next Tuesday night.

BTW ... have you voted in this week's poll in the upper left hand corner of this page? Time is running out!

Wednesday, February 20, 2008

According to the husband, who evidently doesn’t have as much work on his plate as I do, he scanned American Idol-related blogs today and discovered that Carly Smithson was missing from the audience during the guys’ performances last night. Of course, that got the rumor mill flowing today but as tonight’s show opens, Carly is at the front of the line. You know that flu bug that was going around here a few weeks ago? It seems to have made it’s way to California as the girls have been stricken with flu-like symptoms. Will that affect tonight’s performances? Let’s find out.
1. Kristy Lee Cook, 24, Selma, OR
She sold her favorite horse to pay her way to the Philadelphia auditions and it looks like she made a good investment. Singing "Rescue Me" with a bit of twang, Kristy Lee’s performance is nothing more than dressed-up karaoke to me. Randy says it was pitchy and rough around the edges. Paula says how tough it is to go first. Boo hoo. Simon says the song didn’t suit her and the performance was robotic. I just wish I looked that good when I have the flu.
2. Joanne Borgella, 25, Hoboken, NJ
She was great in rehearsals but tonight on "Forever/Say a little prayer for you" she delivers plenty of passion but her voice sounds flu-ish.
3. Alaina Whitaker, 16, Tulsa, OK
The youngest contestant of the season also boasts some fabulous hair. But really, how does she sound? Alaina offers a very mature voice on "I Love You More Today Than Yesterday." Although a bit pitchy, she still gives us the best performance of the evening so far.
4. Amanda Overmyer, 23, Mulberry, IN
This is one of the contestants I’ve been anxious to see perform at this level. Will Amanda do us proud? Rocker chick stays true to herself but I have absolutely no idea what she’s singing. Her voice is different from anything else we’ve ever heard throughout 7 seasons and for that, I’m a fan. But this song … umm … I’m not sure what to do. The crowd loves it.
5. Amy Davis, 25, Cedar Lake, IN
Amy tries her chops at "Where the Boys Are" and 30 seconds in, I’m not sure she’s hit a single note. Is it nerves? Flu? Dude, this isn’t good at all.
6. Brooke White, 24, Van Nuys, CA
David Cook sang "Happy Together" last night and sang it very well. Brooke gives it a try but takes a different approach. She delivers a breathy, yet enjoyable performance, but not as enjoyable as it needs to be.
7. Alexandrea Lushington, 17, Douglasville, GA
This girl is from one of my favorite Georgia towns to just go and shop for things I need. I miss the trees, the dry lakes, the winding roads … but I digress. Alexandrea makes an interesting song choice in "Spinning Wheel" and surprisingly, she gives us the best "performance" of the evening. Her singing is pretty dope too so I see good things for this chick. The husband says "Surprisingly good."
8. Kady Malloy, 18, Houston, TX
It was first made popular in the 60s, but I know it thanks to Phil Collins’ remake back in the 80s. On "Groovy Kind of Love," Kady gives us a soulful, yet, sultry, voice. She’s absolutely beautiful in her evening gown. For me, this is perhaps the best vocal of the evening.
9. Asia’h Epperson, 19, Joplin, MO
This lovely young lady’s father passed away the day before she auditioned and she’s stayed strong through it all. It’s probably no coincidence that she’s chosen to sing "Piece of My Heart" Asia’h has a good voice but something seems to be missing in the beginning. She gets a little strength in the lungs towards the end.
10. Remiele Malubay, 20, Miramar, FL
I love Dusty Springfield but will I love Remiele on "You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me"? Nice, nice, nice voice. My only disappointment is that she doesn’t put the power behind her vocals on the chorus because that’s what makes this song work – at least that’s what worked for Ms. Springfield. She does bring it on a little bit towards the end. The crowd loves it much!
11. Syesha Mercado, 21, Miami, FL
I know this is a singing competition but if they gave out "PRETTY" awards, this beauty would definitely take home the trophy. Best "EARRINGS" awards? She wins that too. American Idol? Syesha rocks the house with "Tobacco Road" but I don’t think that song choice is doing her voice any favors. A lot of people are going to disagree with me.
12. Carly Smithson, 24, San Diego, CA
Stricken with the flu, this Irish native is …Right away I’m hating the song choice but absolutely loving the voice. She needs to work on the way she presents herself if she wants to win though. Vocally, though, they saved the best for last. "That’s what the show is all about," says Randy adding how well she did considering she suffered the worst flu in history. I can’t say because I got my flu shot like a good girl. Randy continues to say that Carly delivered the best vocal out of the Top 24 and Carly adds that "Sick is not an excuse." Paula likes Carly’s beautiful inflections. Simon, of course, doesn’t get it, and says the song was way too old-fashioned. Simon needs to be stabbed in the ears.
Bottom two girls and bottom two guys will be going home tomorrow night so make sure you vote for your favorite girl tonight! I’ve highlighted the names of those I feel are at risk tomorrow night. And hey, post a comment or I’ll quit blogging!!! That’s my "Idol" threat. Ha ha.

All Eyes on

I certainly don't have two hours to spare for this show, but I'm a sucker for singers, so here we go! Tonight, the guys are up first and I'm ready to vote! Let's compare notes!
1. David Hernandez, 24, Glendale, AZ
David H. (There are three "Davids") sings "In the Midnight Hour." He has decent chops and sets expectations high for tonight's performances, which will focus on music of the 60s. He doesn't have a strong finish though. Randy agrees and says the competition is on. Paula notes that David H. has the vocals. Simon says, "It was actually better than I thought it was gonna be" and encouraged him to loosen up.
2. Chikezie Eze, 22, Inglewood, CA
He's a sharp dresser but I feel he either tried to change "I Love You More Today Than Yesterday" up too much or completely mauled it. The audience loved it though. Randy encourages him to make the older songs fresh. Paula gushes foolishly followed by her typical babbling. Simon says, "I absolutely hated the whole performance" and even went on to insult the threads. Now, that's just wrong. But not as wrong as Chikezie snapped back at Simon. That could end up hurting him.
3. David Cook, 25, Blue Springs, MO
WOW right off the bat. Singing "Happy Together," David C.'s voice is a little weak for the way he's trying to deliver it but still, very, very enjoyable. This is a fun, rockin' performance! Randy's lovin' it and so does Paula. Simon felt he shouted the song in the middle but he seems to like it nonetheless.
4. Jason Yeager, 28, Grand Prairie, TX
This guy looks like one of the Lettermen - for those of you who remember who the Lettermen were. His voice is pleasant on "Moon River," but nothing more than pleasant. Dinner theater for sure. Randy encourages him to not lose his concentration while performing. Paula gets gushy about her first ballet recital being to that song. Simon hits it dead on calling it a cruise ship performance.
5. Robbie Carrico, 26, Melbourne, FL
Singing "One," Robbie's voice is all right but the song's arrangement is quite distracting. I'm not sure what to make of this performance. Randy likes the version though and says "You move me, baby." Paula calls him "authentic." Simon says it's the only performance tonight that has any semblance of making sense.
6. David Archuleta, 17, Murray, UT
David A.'s "You Better Shop Around" demonstrates that his voice could use a little fine-tuning. I think that will come if he gets the opportunity to stick in this competition for any length of time. He's terribly young and cute as a button. He'll definitely get the vote of Tweener girls. David A. finishes stronger than a west Texas wind though! Randy calls it "brilliant" and says he is born with a gift. Paula calls the song choice brave and bold. Simon says, "When you got it, you got it." He even goes on to say it's the best performance of the night. Just as I confess to my husband that I want to adopt this child, Ryan says, "You can only vote for him, you actually can't adopt him!" My home is TAPPED!!!
7. Danny Noriega, 18, Azusa, CA
This pretty boy thinks he's hot. Singing "Jailhouse Rock" he proves he he can sing okay and perform well. There's still something about him though that gives me the creeps. Maybe it's his arrogance. Maybe it's the way he ends this song. Eww. Randy likes it that Danny's having a good time but says the vocals are only okay. Paula babbles then gets to the point and calls the song safe. Shut up Paula. Your hair doesn't even look good. Simon calls the performance "verging on grotesque." In the banter with Ryan, Danny snaps his attitude in Simon's direction, proving my point that there's something creepy about this freaky.
8. Luke Menard, 29, Crawfordsville, IN
Luke looks like a Luke. Pleasant voice on "Everyone's Talkin' At Me" and a delightful ending but no "Wow" factor. Too safe. Randy calls it pitchy. First real bad review of the night. Paula agrees and instead of shutting up there, she babbles. Simon calls it forgettable. I agree.
9. Colton Berry, 18, Staunton, VA
Earlier, he compared his looks to Ellen DeGeneres and he's absolutely correct. From his looks to his humor - Colton is the offspring of Ellen. He sings "Suspicious Minds," one of the few Elvis songs I actually like. Not perfect, but definitely much more enjoyable than I expected. Vocals are more impressive than expected. I didn't want to like this little terd. Randy says he did a pretty good job. Paula says it's nice to see a different side of him but says it wasn't his best performance but appreciated the eager attempt. Simon says he has no relevance in today's musical industry. I disagree. Simon goes on to be ruder, if you can imagine. I'm starting to take issue with our resident Brit.
10. Garrett Haley, 17, Elida, OH
He looks shy, meek and out of his element. Garrett admits he has an issue with confidence. Singing Neil Sedaka's style of "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do." Not a "Wow" performance but impressive though. Best voice of the evening, in my opinion, but not the best performance. Randy encourages him to bring something new to it and calls it boring. He couldn't be more wrong. "Be courageous" says Paula. Simon drops buckets of unwelcomed insults. Garrett responds that he's going to take the judges' constructive criticism and learn from it. What a good, genuine kid. I'm ticked with the judges for sure now.
11. Jason Castro, 20, Rockwall, TX
My husband says, and I must agree, that our second Jason in the competition looks like John Travolta. Let's clarify that the looks are similar facially. Jason C. has tons of grubby dreads. Playing "What a Day for a Daydream" on the guitar. Strong vocals. Not my favorite song but he could win my ears over as having the best vocals of the night. Randy recognizes the few pitch problems but says it was all right. Paula says he blew her away and called the performance "effortless." Simon says Jason C. is one of the top two performers of the night and calls it "terrific." They've been hiding this gem from us.
12. Michael Johns, 29, Buckhead, GA
Speaking of gems, I must announce: HOTTIE AUSSIE ALERT!!! He lives in Buckhead, Georgia now and if you ever make your way to Atlanta, Buckhead is definitely the place to hop the nightclubs and pick up hot, successful guys. If cute slackers are more your type, there's plenty of them available too! Now, back to HOTTIE'S performance on "Light My Fire." He can light my fire! The vocals aren’t as good as they were on his Queen performance from last week. Regardless, he's hot. HOT, HOT, HOT!!! I'm such a girl at heart! Randy loves him and calls him "the bomb." "Excellent way to end the night," concurs Paula. Simon calls him the "most consistent contestant" and adds that he’s "just got it." He's only a decade younger than I am. The husband is younger than I am too, but not THAT young!
So, whom are you voting for tonight? Did I mention Michael Johns had a GREAT butt? Gosh, do I vote for hottie, cutie or sweetie? Who should go home? Which two are going to fall through the cracks? Let me know because I certainly don't! The husband feels we haven't seen an American Idol in the guy group. Do you agree? HOLD ON!!! We just compared notes and the anonymous husband agrees with me that Chikezie and Danny Noriega are going home tomorrow night. Luke's at risk too.
